TypeGO is a Japan-based EdTech platform reimagining how students from elementary to high school learn English.

With an AI-supported, typing-based learning model, TypeGO delivers bite-sized lessons and automated feedback — making English learning efficient, engaging, and measurable.

Challenge

TypeGO set out to enhance typing-based English learning in classrooms by combining gamified lessons with AI-driven feedback. Their goal was to create a platform that was engaging for students, reduced repetitive work for teachers, and integrated seamlessly with Japan’s GIGA School framework.

As adoption grew to 80+ schools and 10,000+ students, the platform’s original tech stack began showing limitations.

Cold start delays in the infrastructure.
Larger-than-ideal frontend bundles, and
Limited backend flexibility

Which meant that a full-stack re-architecture was needed to sustain growth and improve classroom experience.

Approach

Onepixlab partnered with TypeGO to re-engineer the platform across all layers — backend, frontend, database, and infrastructure — ensuring it was both technically sound and aligned with the product vision.

Infrastructure: Migrated from AWS Lambda to AWS ECS to eliminate cold start delays, gain full operational control, and maintain predictable costs.
Backend: Transitioned from Node.js + Express.js (Lambda) to Deno + Hono, improving security and removing the need for TypeScript-to-JavaScript compilation.
Frontend: Rebuilt from Next.js (React) to Svelte, enabling finer control for game-like features and delivering much smaller bundle sizes for faster load times.
Database: Upgraded from MySQL to PostgreSQL for its richer feature set and proven reliability.

All changes were implemented in close collaboration with TypeGO’s team to ensure smooth adoption and minimal disruption to live classrooms.

Significantly reduce the manual workload for educators through automation

The partnership with Onepixlab also established a strong technical foundation for advanced analytics and automation features planned for upcoming releases.
